Brrr! The sky is overcast this morning and there’s snow in the forecast. It’s a sharp contrast to the blazing blue sky and heat of Baja, where we spent the last week. Vacations are always so welcome, but by the time they end, nothing sounds better than home. Here are delightful bits and pieces from both this week (and more on Mexico soon!).
Neighborhood trees before we left for Mexico.
Baja sunset.
We spent a day at Shipwrecks, a surf break. Gorgeous!
My brother snapped this shot of my mom, Wild Burro Tamer.
If you look closely, there’s a tiny crab in the middle of this photo!
Many nights in Mexico were spent like this, cheering for John’s Mets.
The boys had a very successful day fishing! We ate well.
Our friend who stayed with Cholula sends happy dog photos while we’re gone. She rocks!
A different “view from the porch” than at home.
Mexico is full of color!
Hot hubby doing what he loves. He caught a jack right after this shot!
Shopping in Mexico is entertaining!
Beauty is everywhere.
My boys being silly while they grilled the catch of the day!
BUMP.
El Dia del los Muerto display at Flora Farms.
I love my little bro!
I take a photo of this sign on each visit. A wise reminder.
The neighborhood looks like this now that we’re home.
Prenatal massage in my own family room! Dreamy!
The best part of coming home. #crookedears
Washing sand off of this trip’s beach-combing haul. I’m obsessed!
I can’t stop eating pineapple. Baby loves it!
We had our third anniversary! I love this shot of our first dance (more). Photo: Tommy Chandler
We went out for fancy burgers and fries to celebrate. There was also a milkshake situation.
We celebrated the day before our actual anniversary…
…because the World Series started on our true anniversary.
Some leaves are still changing!
Halloween will be a whole new ballgame next year! Photo: Humans of New York
That moment when you look at a kid’s catalog and it finally makes sense.
One year ago, we were in Mexico assessing hurricane damage (more). Note: The pool was fine.
Two years ago, we celebrated a perfect anniversary in the PNW (more here and here).
Three years ago, Hurricane Sandy stranded John’s family in Utah after our wedding.
Four years ago, John played cards with the other fishermen evacuated from Punta Allen (more).
Five years ago, this buffalo loved me and charged John every time he tried to come near me!
Today, I’m still tearing up over the sweet card John gave me yesterday (complete with Stevie Wonder lyrics). I couldn’t be more loved.
You know. Just the usual bliss.

I love your bliss bits this week. It looks like you had a beautiful trip to Mexico! That photo of your mom…”Wild Burro Tamer” cracked me up. ha. Oh and that little bump by the pool…the sweetest:)
It was a fabulous family trip and I have a ton of photos to share, as usual! My mom is literally an animal whisperer. She would take them all home if she could! I know where I get it from! The bump is becoming large and in charge… but I love it!
I craved pineapple too! I couldn’t get enough! Love these boys!
