And by wild, I mean…well, an actual animal.
My date last night may have fur and four paws, but we girls had ourselves quite a lovely evening.
Dinner and a movie was the plan. On the menu for Cholula was Lamb and Rice a la Eukanuba, which she nibbled delicately like a lady. I upgraded a Kashi pizza to ‘stay-in gourmet’ status by adding fresh ingredients (and keeping to my commitment to ‘Meatless Monday’).
We imbibed with our preferred beverages (tap water, not bottled, and a tasty Cotes du Rhone).
We both love food, so there was very little conversation as we focused on enjoying our meal, save the occasional THUMP THUMP from Cholula’s tail. I like to think we’re comfortable enough in our relationship not to need to fill our time together with talking…ER, barking.
After dinner, my big-eared companion suffered from a bit of food coma.
Temporarily abandoned by my date, I searched for a movie. Clearly, with John out for the evening, it was chick flick or bust. Most choices seemed too dark for my current mood, so I selected New Year’s Eve. Yes, it got less-than-stellar reviews. But lots of movie stars, NYC at the holidays, champagne, and multiple stories of love?! Sold. (Don’t tell anyone.)
A little later in the evening, my date seemed to be bored with my company. She wandered distractedly around the room, ignoring my kind words, looking for anything to pique her interest. She hunted a trapped fly for awhile, snapping at the air while it buzzed frantically near the window. I started to feel insecure about the success of our evening, so I pulled out the big guns to draw her back in. TREATS.
Dessert magically resurrected our evening together (as is often the case), and we fell asleep cuddling on the couch.
Girls’ night in = success.
So fun! I always take the opportunity to indulge in a good chick flick when hubs is gone! My female border collie is always game…as long as I bring the treats!
The treats were key for the 7 month old puppy. Easily distracted, and tends to get her second wind right as I’m ready to settle down for the evening!
Adorable post!!! You cracked me up! It makes me long for a pup even more…if that was possible! 🙂
So much work, but so worth it!
Wonderful dog photos. She looks like quite a charmer.
She’s a sweet girl! And a handful!
Indeed. Smart dogs need jobs and hobbies, don’t you think?
YES. They should definitely be paid more than some humans! 🙂
