Though the transitions into each new season bring me joy in different ways, AUTUMN is my favorite by far. When you live in the mountains, fall can be a super short season. I can’t lie- there have been days recently where it felt like Old Man Winter was knocking on the door already, and it’s only the beginning of October! Maybe that’s why it feels so special- around here, there’s a good chance these magical days won’t last very long. The cooler temperatures during the day and the heater coming on at night. The reddening hillsides that make you look twice. The golden aspens fluttering against the extra-blue sky. The crunch of frost under my feet and my breath visible in the air on a chilly morning hike. Al Michaels’ voice and football on the TV. Fall décor and pumpkins and the big debate over the perfect Halloween costumes. Candles! Bundling up for outdoor excursions and little rosy red toddler cheeks. Mums and the last sunflowers and a crockpot bubbling on the countertop. Anticipating the joy of the holiday season ahead. Slippers and a fire burning in the background. There are so many things about fall that make me sigh with contentment, and I welcome the natural slowing down that it brings.
What are some of your favorite things about fall?
One year ago: Oden’s first trip to Kauai!
Family gatherings, good eats and drinks, especially pumpkin pie, decorating the house a little spooky with a twist of fall with pumpkins and gourds, birthday celebrations, etc. Love this time of year 🙂 Happy Day – Enjoy!
YES! The family and friends gathering seems to be more cozy and meaningful this time of year, even if it’s not a holiday! 🙂
Fall has always been my favorite time of year. Now that we live in Tucson it signals cooler temps where we can escape the heat and start enjoying the outdoors even more!
This is your golden time of year, where you don’t spontaneously combust when you go outside! Enjoy that weather as we start waking up to frost! 🙂
